We didn't start a remapping business. We've been an engineering workshop since 2010 and have added comprehensive remapping services to what we already do.
Who we are
MacG Racing has operated out of Barrow Bridge Industrial Estate at Barrow upon Trent since 2010. We're a motorsport engineering firm: we build race cars, prepare and run them at circuits, rebuild engines and transmissions, and do design work for people who make parts for a living.
Donington Park is ten minutes down the road, which is not a coincidence. A good part of our work arrives from teams and owners racing there.

Why we joined Topgear Tuning
We've been remapping cars for years as part of the wider work. What we didn't have was the calibration depth to cover every vehicle that comes through the door properly.
Topgear Tuning has spent years developing and testing files across a very large number of vehicles, with technical support behind them. That's a different kind of resource to anything a single workshop builds on its own, and it means we can map a customer's Sprinter on Tuesday and a Golf R on Wednesday without either being a first attempt.
So the arrangement is straightforward. They bring the calibration library and the network. We bring the workshop, the ramp and the people who rebuild engines for a living.
Why we don't do mobile
Most remapping in this region is mobile, and it's a perfectly reasonable business model. It just isn't ours.
When we take on a car we want to see it first. Not a diagnostic scan through the OBD port, but the car up on a ramp with someone looking at the intake, the boost pipework, the intercooler and the general state of things. On a high mileage diesel that check is often the most valuable part of the job, and there's no version of it that happens properly on a driveway in the rain.
It costs us the customers who want someone to come to them. We've made our peace with that.

Over the 14+ years TopGear has tuned over 100,000 vehicles between its 600+ dealer network. In 2015 the original TopGear STIG came onboard to push the brand forward in the UK and Internationally.
