Diesel remapping

Diesels respond to a remap better than anything else on the road. It's most of what we do, and it's the easiest recommendation we make.

Why diesels gain so much

Two reasons. First, they're turbocharged, and boost pressure is one of the most effective things a map can adjust. Second, diesel engines are built strong to cope with their own combustion pressures, which means the components already fitted usually have real margin in them.

Put those together and a modern turbo diesel often has substantially more torque available than the factory map asks for. Not because the manufacturer got it wrong, but because they had to build one map for every market, every fuel quality and every owner.

What changes in the way it drives

The word most owners land on is effortless.

Diesels make their torque low down, and a remap widens that band and lifts it. So the car pulls away without thought, sits at motorway speed at lower revs, climbs a hill in the gear you're already in, and doesn't sag when it's fully loaded. Overtaking stops needing a run up.

You also get the choice of what to do with it. Drive the same and use less fuel, or use the extra and go quicker. Not both.

Cars we see most of around here

The East Midlands runs on diesel. Company cars up and down the M1 and A50, vans on the A38, pickups and 4x4s out towards Melton and Ashbourne. Common ones through our door: BMW 320d and 520d, Audi and VW TDIs, Ford Focus and Ranger, Vauxhall Insignia and Vivaro, Mercedes Sprinter, Transit and Transit Custom.

The DPF, EGR and AdBlue question

This is the conversation every diesel owner has heard about, so here's our position plainly.

We don't remove or disable any of it. Doing so makes the car illegal to use on the road, fails an MOT, and leaves you with a problem the next garage will find. Plenty of places nearby will offer it. We're not one of them.

A diesel remap works perfectly well with the emissions equipment in place. If your DPF is genuinely blocked or your EGR is sticking, that's a mechanical fault with a proper fix, and we'll point you at someone who does it properly rather than delete the part and call it solved.

We look before we write

High mileage diesels arrive with things worth knowing about: soft boost pipes, carboned intakes, tired turbos, EGR valves on their way out. Asking for more torque from an engine in that state is how people end up with an expensive week. Your car goes on a ramp in our unit first. If we find something, you'll hear about it before we touch the software.

Find out what your diesel will do

Gains are specific to the engine, not the badge. Send us the reg and we'll give you the numbers for yours.
