Search for a remap near Derby or Nottingham and you'll mostly find mobile operators. Someone turns up at your house, plugs a laptop into the OBD port while you make a cup of tea, and drives off forty minutes later. It works, right up until it doesn't.
We do it differently.
Here at MacG Racing we have been building and running race cars out of our unit at Barrow upon Trent since 2010. We rebuild engines and gearboxes, prep endurance racing cars for racing across the UK including at Donington, and do design and prototype work for manufacturers. Tuning has been part of that from the start. Joining Topgear Tuning means we can now offer it with the network's full technical support behind us.
So your car comes to us. It goes on a ramp, under cover, with the diagnostic and recovery kit already on site. If something looks off before we write a map, we can put it up and actually look at it. That is the whole difference, and it's the reason we don't do mobile.
As a customer, you can also choose a 12 or 24-month warranty with our remapping software. We are that confident in our calibrations that we will warrant the work (T&Cs apply).
What do you want your car to do?
Same process either way. Different map.
More power and, more usefully, more torque lower down. Most owners notice the flexibility before they notice the top end: pulling away, overtaking, holding a gear up a hill without kicking down.
Petrol or diesel, standard car or already modified.
An economy map targets efficiency instead of outright power. Extra low-end torque means fewer gear changes and less right foot to do the same job, which is where the saving actually comes from.
Best suited to diesels doing real mileage. Company cars, vans, tow vehicles.

1. Send us your reg. We'll tell you what your exact vehicle gains and what it costs. Free, and you're not committing to anything.

2. Book a slot. Most cars take under two hours. There's a waiting area, or leave it with us for the morning.

3. We back up your original file. Before we change a thing. It stays on record, so the car can always go back to standard.

4. Road test, then keys back. We drive it before you do, and we go through what's changed.
We're at Barrow upon Trent, which puts us within half an hour of most of the East Midlands. Derby is fifteen minutes, Burton and Swadlincote about the same, Castle Donington closer still.
Nottingham and Loughborough are a straightforward run down the A50 and A6.

DYNO DEVELOPED CALIBRATIONS
At the HQ of TopGear Tuning, software is developed on the dyno to ensure the calibration being flashed to your ECU is of the utmost quality. The software is developed extensively using vehicle data logs and live time data.
The four things everyone asks
Will it affect my warranty?
If the car is under manufacturer warranty, a remap can affect a claim on the engine or drivetrain. Not automatically, and not the whole car, but it's a real risk and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling. We keep your original file, so it can be returned to standard before a dealer visit. Ask us and we'll talk you through where you stand.
Do I need to tell my insurer?
Yes. A remap is a modification and you're required to declare it. Most insurers charge little or nothing for a Stage 1 map on a standard car, but not declaring it can invalidate a claim. We'll give you the details you need to pass on.
Is remapping legal?
Yes. Changing the engine's software is legal on a UK road car, provided the emissions equipment stays in place and working. That's why we don't remove DPFs, EGR valves or AdBlue systems. Declare it to your insurer and the car stays road legal and MOT ready.
Can it be undone?
Yes. We back up the original file before we write anything and keep it on record. If you sell the car, go back to a main dealer, or simply change your mind, we can put it back to how it left the factory.
